Life!

Hi again!

So its been a month since my last post and I have to say I am quite a bit further forward with the sewing idea, instead of repairing my grans old machine I got a new one which is fantastic! I have also decided that my first project is going to be a blanket for a friends little girl, but its a surprise so I wont go into to much detail!! I have got all my needles and thread and material so its just when I can get time to make a start on it!

Over the past month life has to be honest got the better of me a little, my mood has been really low and despite putting on a brave face for people at college i have been finding things really difficult. I have been struggling with coursework, not so much finding it difficult but not having motivation to do it. Also hubby and I have decided to stop trying to conceive, we  have been trying for about 2 years and due to complications will have to have IVF or treatment along those lines. Quite frankly right now I can't handle it so we are going to wait a while and then re-visit it when we hopefully have money to go private. So my whole rockabilly conquest has been difficult to stay on top of with all of that going on!

I have however decided to change my hair colour again haha!! I don't know what to but I am thinking Auburn....I am afraid of the ginger possibility with that though, so maybe stick to my purple for now who knows I might just randomly pick a colour and go with it!!! With all of this and Christmas around the corner its hard to stay focused on one thing, hubby's birthday is 5 days after Christmas so its busy busy busy from here on out! I will keep you updated with what is going on and I will definitely have my head out of the oven by my next post :)

Hope you are well and thanks for reading :) x

Sewing.....

Hi!! Ok so here's a quick up date since my last post I got my hair cut and coloured it is fab! I got my Betty Bangs cut in and the colour is now a lovely purple I will post pics soon! As usual though I am itching to change the colour...I'm thinking auburn as I am very pale skinned it might actually look good I am afraid of it fading to ginger that's a look that I think only a select few can pull off and I'm not one! I also got a bag it was the first time I had ever bid on something on eBay and I won....you have no idea how happy I was! It is being delivered on Saturday so again pics to follow :) and I promise promise promise to put them on ASAP!!!

I do have to apologise for the time I have taken to post again...I misjudged the amount of time that would be taken up with the new Grand Theft Auto!! So apart from playing that I have been looking at getting back into sewing...proving my Dad right when he encouraged me to learn from my Gran and Uncle that 'when you are a student and have no money for clothes you will go back to your machine!' Well that's exactly what I am doing. I got out the sewing machine that my Gran had given me years and years ago but it needs a bit of work to get up and running again so for the time being it looks like it will be easier to buy a second hand machine from gumtree somewhere and slowly get bits and pieces for the old one to have it back in working order again. So my hunt for a sewing machine is on I get my student loan at the start of next month and have already decided with hubby that I can spend about £30-£40 on a machine and a little on some cheap fabric. I am so excited that I have been trawling the internet looking for any free plus size patterns I can get my hands on which is a very small number so I have also bought some brown paper to trace round clothes I all ready have to make my own patterns...just they way I was taught as a kid! It really is like riding a bike it never leaves you...just hope the same can be saId when it comes to sewing and I can still do a straight line!

So that is all for now and as usual if you want to say hi just comment below!

Hope you are well :)

Fresh start

It has been a while since my last post and for that I am sorry! So let me ask you for another chance...a fresh start if you will. I hope you can agree to carry on regardless and join me on my journey to become a fab rockabilly chick.

So term has started again and so has all the pressures of college, the early mornings do not agree with me haha! I have found myself running out in the morning without makeup on and saying to myself it's ok do it when you get there....which dosnt happen! So I am falling at the first hurdle when it comes to keeping up appearances. This week however I have been putting in the effort doing my eyeliner flicks and lushous lips and I will be honest I have felt more myself and more confident.

I went to get my hair cut and asked for 'Betty Bangs' I took pictures with me of what I wanted and I will be honest it was a disaster! Instead of the U shaped fringe we all know and love I ended up with an absolute monstrosity which has now just grown out...so I am putting myself through it again on Wednesday and this time I am not leaving until I get what I want haha!! I am also going to get a daring colour I haven't decided what yet so if you have ideas post them up I would love to hear from you!

Another little project I have going on is trying to find a nice vintage bag that I can use for college to keep all my many bits and bobs in and I have to tell you I am struggling. I have seen some but they tend to be from the 1970s and that's not really what I'm looking for I want something that wouldn't look out of place in grease or mad men (I know they are several years apart but you get what I mean!). My search continues hopefully I will have something for my next post so fingers crossed!

Hope you are well and thanks for reading!! :)

What Is Uncovering Rockabilly?

Hi, This is my first ever blog post so if i'm not as refined as I could be please forgive me!! Ok so here goes....

Uncovering Rockabilly is a blog about my change from plain jane wallflower to awesome bright vintage rockabilly chick!

Why am I doing this??

Well when I was a teenager I would have been classed as your typical little dark gloomy goth girl, where as much as wearing black was the main goal of that style it was also about standing out from the 'norm' I wasn't afraid to dye my hair any colour or put on outlandish outfits because that was all part of the look my friends and me were going for! However in my 20's I seem to have lost all of my confidence and really took to the motto 'I dress for comfort'...despite always eyeing the fashion mags thinking that is pretty, wish I could fit into that (...between the ages of 21 and 25 I have ballooned from a UK size 12 to a 20/22...this is also being addressed!!!) or of I wish I had the guts to wear that!

I have always loved the 1950's Americana look and wished I could muster the courage to wear clothes inspired by that era so now is the time. I have just completed my first year back in education for a few years and with the confidence I have gained in doing that and meeting all the wonderful girls in my class I have decided its all change I am going to start wearing all the clothes I have admired from afar....the ones I can afford anyway haha!!! When I was little I always wanted to dress up and look like the girls from the 50's my Gran who was a seamstress made me a few swing skirts that I loved, I remember one particular summer I had one skirt that I wanted to wear everyday my mum had to wrestle me out of it! I felt like a little lady in it and just never wanted anything else!

Of course the Rockabilly scene isn't all just clothes it is the music as well and this is something I have had a passion for since I can remember. I used to listen to Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and all the other classic country stars with my Gran anytime I visited her, with my Dad I listened to The Eagles all the time when we were in the car and so many other great artists like Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan too many to name!! My Mum who has an amazing knowledge of music from the 50's, 60's and 70's brought groups like The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and so so many amazing artists and songs into the mix for me. Although like any girl growing up in the 90's I had a boy band that I would give my right arm to meet and for me it was Boyzone! I moved from that to more modern rock as well as getting into 90's grunge and indie in the 00's and throughout I secretly listened to the huge variety of artists I had been introduced to as a kid. It is only recently that I have started really being honest about what music I love and through this I have uncovered a magical thing called Rockabilly!! I was blissfully unaware that this amazing sub-culture existed anywhere in the world!

The second I laid eyes on the hourglass dresses on eBay I fell in love! the dresses are how I have dressed in my dreams since I was a kid and so my google hunt began! This is where I discovered I am a closet rockabilly girl and its time to come out of that dark corner, all I need now is the wardrobe I have the music sorted!

Now I am a 25 year old married student with three dogs so running out and buying everything I want is not really an option as my budget is beyond tight so I have been taking little steps to become the rockabilly chick I want to be so I bought a red bandanna, red lipstick and red nail polish so let see where it takes us!

Thanks so much for reading hope you are good :)
